540i/6 Chip? ...or Software???

Does anyone know if my '98 540i/6 can be chipped, or is a download of Performance Software the only way?

Whatever your answer is, what brand would you recommend, and why?

Also, what is the best-for-the-buck Cold Air Intake made? Dinan? Bavarian? Etc? Do they all use K&N filters? I know they only add a few additional few ponies, but they all help!

THANKS!!

Hey Greg,

I have a preference to Autothority for chip tuning. They claim a whopping 19hp to the wheels with their software. And for the price ($499) compared to competitors who give you marginal performance... wow can't beat it.

CAI all do the same thing. Dinan, revHigh, Bavarian.. all placed in the same location, all use k&N filter type elements so all produce the same amount of gains.

Knowledge

Having knowledge, like you have, and not sharing it is like sitting on a rock fishing with your best friend, with two ice-cold ones in the cooler. When he leaves to go take a piss, you drink BOTH of them.

No worries...God will punish you.

Anyway, if I haven't said it before, then I'll say it now. Thank you.

I too have heard good things from Autothority. Any advice on who has the thickest sway bars offered, both front and rear? I'm also looking for front/rear strutbraces.

Also, I'm considering PIAA's. (Can't afford angel eyes!) Any advice there as well?

...oh...and one MORE thing...
(hey, while your lying there bleeding, I might as well kick ya!)
OEM ///M5 aerodynamics. Where? and How?
How hard do you think it would it be to put together a "group buy?"

As always, many thanks!!

I knew this would come back and bite me in the arse, but yeah sure now you come with the hard questions...

Sway bars... hmm.. Obviously Dinan has some but price could be an issue, they also have the strut braces. There's Racing Dynamics for strut braces, and sway bars as well. I'm sure the big names also have some like Schnitzer, Hamann, etc..

Have you thought of going M5 sway bars instead?

If you are interested I can hook you up with my guy overseas, get you a complete angel eye xenon kit for about $850US.....

For the aero stuff, have you tried some board sponsors? Maybe MMS Tuning, I think someone is trying to do a group buy off them..

To put together a group buy I would say you need to plan 3 months in advance, to generate interest, confirm orders, make sure payments are made... Real PITA....

Nothing like a prompt reply from me.

Thank you. ...really.
