Beautiful car, I've always liked the front bumper a little better than the one that came on the M5. I like the t-bar.

Enjoy it safely!
I'm being honest and unbiased when I say I do also. It just looks a bit more... I'm not sure of the word to use without offending all you M5 owners, lol... more... finished? I dunno... Both cars are great looking.

Thank you... the wheels were actually one of the selling points for me.

Sure i could have gotten an '01 or '02 and gotten bumpers and M-pars... but if I had gotten OEM stuff, which IMO is the only option, the replica bumpers unacceptable quality to me, and repica wheels arent forged and just look "cheaper"... I would have spent more than the difference in price between a non-Mtech and my M-tech and I wouldn't have all the other M goodies and the anthracite headliner.

Very nice looking car. I like the wheels and I had the t-bar on my last M5. I like the look but went with 4" sink drains this time.

Nice 540i. Congrats man!

Have you driven an M5? Performance wise, not close. I wouldn't bother modding your 540i since you talk about supercharging or doing a motor swap, etc. You will no longer be getting that small amount of better gas mileage and you 'd be better off economically buying an M5 instead of adding M5 parts here and there or supercharging your 540i and just getting up to M5 performance.

Enjoy the 540, until the M5 bug bites. Plenty of us that own multiple E39s.

Good looking vehicle however, I'd lose the 'but its close' aspect of the thread's title.
Other than that - nice job

Beautiful 540i/6 M-Sport! I owned a 03 540i/6 M-Sport (Topaz Blue). I sold it Jan 12 when I purchased my M5. Though my 540i/6 was very nice I often found myself looking at e39 M5s. Your car has a special VIN# designation. The Mpar wheels, T-bar front bumper and visible single exhaust are unique for the e39 model. I had a couple of months of overlap between the 540i/6 and M5. Both cars are great, but the M5 elevates itself on refinement, power...etc. I echo previous post on limiting the mods for your 540i/6. Before you spend additional money on SC/S62 transplant, give further consideration on buying a ...M5. Enjoy your search!
