Exhaust

Being a fairly new member to the m5 family I'm still learning the pros and cons of the add ons to this car. The m5 board has been my sourse of information on everything I'm considering. I'm ready to upgrade my exhaust. I am looking for a throaty sound. My question is should I add an x pipe to enhance the sound of the new mufflers. If I add an x pipe should I expect more performance and if so how much. Are there different x pipes

thanks for the info
