The Nordschliefe ate my bushes

These were brand new, zero miles when we set off...........

Standard ones from GSF.

Will butcher them out and put the Powerflex ones in that I've got kicking around the garage......

Moral of the story is to only buy genuine BMW parts..................

They look like inner bushes on the lower wishbone or rod
Were those bushes fitted with the stub axle supported ?
Was the bolt put through the bush assembly & tightened whilst there was no weight of the hub assembly pulling down on the bushes ?

What you have shown is symptomatic of this.

Yeah - it's the rear bottom arm. I Admit I didn't have something taking the weight of the strut etc while tightening up the bolt, but then I tightened it again once the car was back on its wheels..........

Did I cock it up?

Hi Rob
Sorry, but it does look like you possibly did.
You should not load the bushes with any kind of vertical downward mass until the bushes are tightened & the vehicle lowered back to the ground.

Most use a bottle jack or similar to support the hub until all is tightened & back in place.

ooops!

So I should have only tightened them up slightly with something supporting the weight of the strut and then REALLY tightened them once I got it back on its wheels?

Luckily, I've still got the Powerflex bushes, so I'll bung those in - following the correct procedure this time!!!

As an afterthought , I've always found those Lemforder arms from GSF to be a quality part .....
