Not a big fan of kill stories..........but

So there we were, just been at Tony's(Mmmm5) dads place as they were fitting new brakes. A Farrellesque type job by the way.

On my way home via John Lennon Airport., I'm at the lights, left lane of two going straight ahaead, roadwork signs indicate that we're down to single lane after the lights, abut 700m away. Caught a glimpse of a shiny black car next to me.......Evi VII or VIII.....who knows!!!!

Lights go green, neither of us really nailing it, but becomes apparent after 50m that we both want the lane! It's on!

The old girl sees redline in first, I look over , the three young scallies look a bit shocked, redline in second , and they are in my mirror! Very exciting!

The cones are coming up quick, he could still try to do me on the brakes. But I love the 4 pots with DS2500s......very happy to chance it. He backs of as I'm approching redline in 3rd.......Job done!

The roundabout snakes to the slip road, but theres workers and other cars around now, no racing here. Give a thumbs up.

When it opens up to two lanes I immediately pull into the left lane and roll down the passenger window. As he pulls along side i hear in a thick scouse accent...'that's a f***ing quick car mate!', too right 'M5' I say!

It feels good to educate the youth of today!

Nice story

You were lucky they didn't steal your wheels when you were at the lights

What 4 pots have you got ? and are those pads the Ferrodo DS2500's ?

Been offered a Brembo setup for mine with those pads in the 4 pots and in the standard brakes on the back...What do you think of them ?

And lastly what sort of maoney are the pads on their own ?

I think Terry has the cast iron 4 pots from the 8 series with std size front disc ??? or the cast iron 4 pots that are used with the floating rotors std on post June 1994 vehicles.
The calipers are very heavy but perform well with decent pads.

I have Brembos alround on my GT-R.
Same performance.
Half the weight ( biggest advantage)
Twice the cost !
Maintenance parts are always expensive.

Cheers

The young lads took the defeat in good spirit. They did look quite shocked though.

Brakes are the E32 4pots with Brembo 324mm discs, from 750iL. DS2500 pads. I got them from Circuit Supplies (www.circuitsupplies.com - Tim Philips, good guy)in Leighton Buzzard. It took quite a bit of tracking down what pads to use. They are a little bit shorter than standard. cost 150 quid for both axles. They work great, if a bit dusty and do make a bit of noise at low speed.

Check out post 38 of this thread; Brake Pad Thread, for 345mm M5 & CSi floating disks and 324mm e32 4-pot calipers

Good story mate!

Bloody thing with Evo's is that most of them are tuned like fcuk.

But then again, one glimpse at their interior or the look on your GF's face when she sees one and you'll know its not a car for us.

FQ400.
An amazing car...
This is really the most outrageous std tune offering that still comes with a
manufacturers warranty & old school turbo lag not seen since the 1980's
Also available in 280ps tune ,FQ320 etc.

FQ stands for the obvious !

Cheers

I'm surprised there wasn't a queue at the other side of those lights anyway - wouldn't have got very far in 1st, never mind any other gear

I'm still not sure about not having any disc mounting hex bolt on my discs and I'm sure that contributed to the problems we had fitting those new pads & discs.

There doesn't seem to be any drag on either wheels and the car freewheels quite easily - the O/S brake does squeal under light to medium braking though, but a heavy-medium to light-hard touch seems to be fine, with no pulling to either side. The pedal also feels much firmer and more progressive.

Just got to do the backs on another dry-ish day!

It must be the very big kid in me but I like these harmless stories too - I recently stumbled across a 2002 posted story of an M5 vs an Audi S3 with, of course, the M5 as winner - it's relevant to me as my wife has an Audi S3 as her daily runner and thinks it's reasonably quick (she has a fairly good idea of 'quick' as her weekend toy is a TVR Griff 500) and possibly as quick as my M5T - that is until I had a little play with a Porsche Carrera on the M6 Toll recently, he bottled a little before me as it was a little damp underfoot (cats and dogs) but I left him on a long uphill section with the speedo and sat-nav both reading cough44 mph with plenty still left in the revs - she's always thought my beemers ('82 635CSi, '85 M635) were fairly rapid but I think the M5T has surprised her, especially from 4k to 7k, and sounding so good with the Eisenmann back box
