Thanks for the informative update.
I find it a little funny that noone ever asked you about this! Whatīs your own opinion about the subject? I went through most of the replies and it reminds me of the same sort of things that sometimes happen in Germany. We have seen socalled experts being refered to like when they were gods and suddently it all comes to a sudden end. We had a guy that used to repair automatic gearboxes and everyone went down south and stayed on a hotel overnight if nessesary. Never asking if the effort ever was worth the money. It was like if ZF Service had never existed. People started to realice although that the moon actually wasnīt made by green cheese. A guy from the north went down there 3 times with the exact same problem and payed quite a lot of money each time. He never ended up being satisfied with the work that had been done he just learned to live with it. Iīm not trying to be sarkastic or anything I just see a red thread here. Never underestimate the importance of knowledge and experience. Honestly the M5 did cost a fortune when it came out and the EDC suspension was and still is extremely reliable and expensive for a reason. I spoke to a germen race driver and he said to me that the EDC indeed was very good at what it was suppose to be doing. I mean who ever knew for sure that the car regained its original safety and performance after the re-make of the dampers? A guy here asked the question if anyone had ever tested it on the Nürburgring? He never got a reply on his very well asked question. All BMWs have been tested on the Nürburgring for a reason. Every negative detail that was pointed out by the test driver was adjusted or even improved over and over again until the proper result had been achieved.
I own an E39 with EDC and itīs really a pain in the a.. that I have to replace the dampers but again what did I expect when I bought the car in the first place? That it would be as cheap as a KIA to maintain? Not very likely. The EDC Fahrwerk is very very well set up and I must say I canīt complain about it. My car is a 1996 sedan with 2700000 on the clock so I pretty much think itīs okay that the dampers need to be replaced.
Please donīt get me wrong here. I really appreciate all the information Iīve been given when going thru the replies in this thread. I wished from the begining that the story would have ended better but it seems to me that it turned out just the way I feared most when starting on this thread.
I still think it would be very interesting to hear from those who first installed the re-made dampers back in 2008 how the handling is 3 years later?
