Some statistics; Maintenance cost

It's now close to eight years that I own my 1990 model E34 ///M 3.6. Some of you didn't even have a drivers license back then, but during this time I have driven close to 75k km. The total maintenance cost is reflected by the following graph.

Hi Ray
I had my drivers licence in 1984.
How old were you then ?
Good statistics & not bad costs for this type of car.
I think that getting a low mileage car does bring some benefit if its not an every day car.
My car was 7 years old when I got it.
I have done 150,000 kms in 6 yrs.
Total cost running costs are 30,000 Euros.

Cheers
Farrell

So were there any particularly big jobs in 00 and 06 or was it just plenty of small ones?

In 2000, I bought a new set of 17" TS rims, a new set of (Dunlop SP9000) tyres and a few repairs => New lower control arms, new waterpump, replacement of the intake manifold gaskets and new distributer cap and rotor. All done by BMW.

2006 saw the replacement of the complete suspension with factory original parts (thus keeping the SLS), two new rear tires (PS2 255/40ZR17), new lenses for the high-and low beams + a respray of the front bumper.

Its scary how bits and bobs bought soon start to add up! I totalled up the invoices in my history file not so long ago and nearly shat myself!

We differ five or six years (that you have more seniority that is ).

The total cost could be lower. I have replaced many parts as preventive maintenance and I didn't have to replace each and every fastening part that I had in my hand whilst working on my car.

8 years ago I was driving a 2.0 Vauxhall Cavalier!!! I also had no kids (& therefore no excuse) then! (but I was at university)

My folder of invoices for my 3.6 over its first 12months has to be record breaking, with Hertfordshire1 the only person who has come close to spending. In one year I bought:

Two new full sets of tyres
Two official oil services
InspI and InspII services
4 additional oil & filter changes
New (s/h) 6 speed box & prop shaft
New Clutch
New Master & slave cylinder
New discs all round
About 3 sets of pads
Complete SLS removal & replacement with H&R and Koni adjustables all round
Complete set of powerflex bushes
New fuel pump
New MAF (at £490!!!!)
New intake elbow
s/h full leather interior (that i never got round to fitting)
2 lots of axle beam bushes
S52 Chain Tensioner
Replaced all front to rear fuel & brake lines
Replaced all front brake pipes / hoses
Complete new set of cooling hoses
Complete set of drive belts
Lots of other consumables

and probably lots more I've forgotten, and best kept that way really!!!

And I sold it for just over £2000 with all that lot on it!!! But of course that included my personal restyling of the rear end....

Hmmmm, i deny spending any money on my car now...
That enables me to sleep at night...

and it lives in the garage, out of the sight of my wife!
