Ipod a E34 M5

Hi
I was woundering if anyone has found a good way to use a Ipod in a 91 M5? My car has a buld date of 9/90. I was woundering if their is a way to connect it to the factory CD changer port?

Thanks

I think that you will need a new 'head' unit.

New head unit with the ipod in the glove box.
Alpine offer best ipod support, but all other companies offer a degree of compatability..

Its a budget thing.

I-pod FM

Try googling on I-pod FM
A friend of mine ordered these on the web, its a small FM transmitter that will send the I-pod output to your car radio. costs about 30€
One end plugs in the cigarette lighter (power for the transmittor but also constantly charges your I- pod) the other connector fits in your I-pod.

Find an "empty" FM frequency on your car radio, dail this frequency in your I-pod radio and presto!!!

Used in my M5T for 4 months and took it on holliday in the rental car, then had it stolen from my loan car as the M5T was under service

Only downside can be finding an "empty" frequency to transmit on if you are in the neighbourhood of a lot of stations.

I've tried the FM transmitter thing and have to say that I wasn't impressed with the sound quality/interference but it was quite a cheap and nasty one.

I had my head unit stolen and got a pioneer blue tooth unit installed (colour of the display matches. Plus I've just bought a IPod adapter (£50) that will let me view the albums/track names through the head unit display. Plus it uses the ipod data connection not the headphone socket so it should be line level and as its hard-wired it should be resonable quality (rip my CDs at the highest bit rate) - fingers crossed.

I tried the FM transmitter thing on my E39 and was vey unimpressed so got a Denison ICElink which I am very pleased with.

I have a Pioneer headunit in the M5 and have just bought the Pioneer Ipod adaptor for that. It arrived yesterday so I haven't had time to fit but will do over the weekend.

Dunno about best, but Becker do some very 'reseved' looking black units with red display so fit i really nice with bmw oem look. Member Simonal has one, and I considered getting one myself as it looks very smart.
