Hello from newbie

Greetings to all, I joined E34 M5 ownership about 2 months ago. I bought a (relatively) inexpensive black 93 with 162k and am working my way around some of the cosmetic issues. She runs great and I am having a ball zipping around the central US in our uncharacteristically balmy weather. I've gotten great value from BMW motorbike boards over the years, so I am glad to have found this site. Also have a 93 525i (125k, wife car), 2 bikes (04 R1150RS and 77 R100S), and a 96 Grand Cherokee for hauling the dogs.

Cheers!

Steve

Sorry for the tardy reply, out of town last week for work. It's a 3.6L.

Here's a link to some photos of the car just before I took delivery:

http://www.iabeemer.smugmug.com/gallery/2325453

It's running wonderfully, I've been working on replacing odd cosmetic bits. If I wanted it perfect, a paint job would be required. I hadn't planned on it, but am now reconsidering. The only real mechanical issue is a failed secondary air pump. That will be replaced in the short term. The 1-2 shift is not the smoothest I've encountered, but I've adapted with no problem, and the conventional wisdom seems to be that it is common. I need to move the throwing stars around appropriately, but unfortunately the bolt heads are stripped, so that's more problematic than expected. I'm a bit surprised that I've logged 2500 miles and it hasn't seemed to burn any oil. Maybe I'm being too easy on her.

Anyway, so far all thumbs up, it's exceeded my expectations all around. I'll start tinkering with suspension, brakes, etc., in the spring and no doubt will have some (stupid) questions, so please bear with me.

Cheers,
Steve
