Boxing Day Rally

Happy new year one and all.

Took the M5 out on the local Ulster Automobile Clubs Boxing Day Rally [actually held on the 27th]. This event is a mixture of navigation tests down country lanes and aototests held in car parks, farmyards etc. Some of the tests are very tight and really designed for Minis and MG Midgets and cars a lot more agile then an M5 but with 300+ horsepower and an LSD its amazing how quickly a big car goes round a pylon! A spectator told me the car reminded him of a hooligan in a sharp suit all black and shiny on the outside but tyre smoke and noise in below!
Had a fabulous day and thanks to the scoring system on the rally, quickest in the class [in our case for cars over 14 foot long] on the autotests gets zero penalties and the rest of the cars in the class get the seconds they are slower as penalties, and the fact my navigator got us round all the controls on time, meant we ended up with no penalties. Unfortunately a very quick young lad in a Mini did the same thing in his class and since the tie-decider was who had been quickest on the tests overall the Mini won! Still second overall was OK for this M5s first event.
If I can figure out how to do it I will download some of the video from the event and also start a new thread about the second black M5 I bought the week before Christmas to do the Sprint and Hillclimb Championship with next year.

Excellent !! You seem to have done well at something the M5 shouldn't really be any good at......bet the spectators liked it. Bit of a change for them.

All the best for next time.
