M5 maintenance question...

So I picked up my 1991 M5 (130K miles) last week and later this week I plan on changing all of the fluids and such. Here are the plans thus far:

Change engine oil anf filter (red line oil, BMW filter)
Change tranny fluid (red line)
Change diff fluid (red line)
Change spark plugs (bosch)
Change Air filter (BMW)
Change Microfilter (BMW)
Change fuel filter (BMW)
Change gas cap (BMW)
Coolant flush (BMW)
Change belts (BMW)
Clean the MAF
Change brakes front and rear (BMW rotors, Axxis Ultimate pads)
Motorvac fuel system service (Snap On)
Valve adjustment
Change wiper blades

Then there are a few things I will take care of above that:
Change boot lid shocks (BMW)
Change diff seals input and output (BMW)
Change Valve cover gasket (BMW)

Can you guys think of anything that I am missing that needs to be replaced or looked at. I have already looked at the intake resonance flap and it is in good working order.

TIA for any input.

Synchronize the throttlebodies, and yes, if its not already there, fit the S50B32 chain tensioner.

As you seem to be doing the whole hog I would rebuild the calipers at the same time, as it's only a few bucks in seals and does miracles for pedal feel and disc life. 1 hour per corner work tops. And if you have the system open might as well replace the hoses......

Found the rebuild kits on BavAuto for $20 a wheel, may go ahead and do that as well.

If you're cleaning the MAF, it's worth replacing the two metal covers and gaskets (retainers).

3.6 car should be:

13 621 316 910 - MAF grid - quantity 2 at rrp $10.94 each
13 621 316 909 - MAF retainer - quantity 2 at rrp $8.83 each

Also check the rubber boot tube for splits, wear and leaks. New is 11 611 312 062 at rrp $27.06

Replace the top hose (radiator to engine) and the shorter "U" shaped one next to it as preventative maintenance. Well worth also doing the other main hoses at the bottom to the radiator too.

Check the radiator is in good condition, no bulges or damage. In the UK we see occasional ones (3rd party?) advertised for £100 ($200) so might be worth doing as yours is 15yrs+ old.

With the engine cold, open the cap to the expansion tank. Start engine and look into the tank when standing in front of the (LHD) passenger door, and leaning forwards. You should see a trickle of water coming from the little return pipe going to the expansion tank. If there is not, then this pipe is blocked and should be replaced before (possibly) causing localised hotspots in the engine due to trapped air pockets.

Replace water pump as you have the belts off. If it is 80k to 100k or older. This is preventative maintenance, recommended, will cost $200 and handing the old one back to the supplier.

Clean and check crank position sensor. Replace if looking old and tired.

Might also be worth changing O2 sensor on the exhaust at this age.

Rotor armature and a new distributor will cost you under $150. They're made by Beru for BMW but can be bought for half the BMW cost at a good third party spares place. Part numbers were in another thread recently.

New flexible brake hoses, OEM BMW. Cheap and worthy.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Should keep you busy, but not too busy that you can't come back here and give us progress reports and a few pics!

Regards and welcome.

Ivan

dont forget your brake fluid.

Throttle body sync-ing is detailed on this forum - try looking for posts by Raymond Woertman for some excellent posts. I also need to get it done but I am preparing myself for blank expressions from the current generation of BMW technicians. Will probably need to go to a specialist.

I just found out that the previous owner included a water pump with the car. He hid it in the spare tire well and I didnt think to look there. SO I guess I will be doing that as well on Friday.

Which is strange, because its a "return to dealer" item and there are no secondary suppliers.
