In case you don't remember we met last year when we went to Don Fields shop with the s14.net guys. I was in my dark gray e30 M3. I must admit seeing your car convinced me to buy an e34 M5. Car looks great man. Here is the one I bought:

Take it easy man!

Chris,

I've probably said it before, but you pulled the M-Technic front bumper off really nicely!

How'd you route the generator/alternator duct?

This is something I've wondered for a while as to how an M-Tech bumper would fit onto an M5 and still get the alternator cooling duct hooked up properly.

Trevor, as you've got bot an M-Sport & M5 at your disposal have you ever tried swapping bumpers to see how the M-Tech would fit on the M5? Guessing not as you yourself are asking how it was pulled off...

Yeah, I've never tried myself...Just wondered, as I like the fact that the M-Technic bumper has functional brake ducts.

I'm sure it's possible, it's just going to require fabricating some of your own duct work.

Correct.

I think the cooling for the alternator get a feed from down there.

Also, the turbine wheels pump air into the wheel, so ducted air from the inside would be pointless.

Yes, one of the ducts in the M5 front bumper is a feed for the alternator. The other duct is blocked off and is only there to balance out the looks. Nothing going to the brakes on an M5 bumper.

The ducts on an M-Tech bumper do run back to the brakes. But M-Tech bumpers weren't (at least as far as I know) installed on anything that had turbines on it from the factory. My M-Sport has the M-Tech bumper & T-Stars. And as the T-Stars don't pump air in, they pull it out the ducting from the bumper does help out with brake cooling.

Not terrible sure that brake ducts & turbines would be pointless. I'd assume that getting air blow at the rotor from both sides might be slightly better than only getting it from one side. But the ducts are certainly more helpful with T-Stars.

one is for the alternator , and the other.... blocked.... go figure... i guess the parallels are enough to cool it...

i;ll have to figure out what i;m going to do with mine , as i have a 540 bumper... i guess i'll make some duct work to split the brake / alternator on the left side....

the t-stars do help cool it , it even has a correct side to install them... is is said it improves cooling by ~10%...
