Just a few pics for anyone interested. I haven't posted much info as it's been a 24 hour a day thing all last week. Engine should be going in tomorrow

No, I wouldn't do it again...

Yup, EVERYTHING needs relocating or changing to 540 parts, it's a huge plumbing nightmare

Engine went in today

Fantastic, I really look forward to seeing how this progresses. I don't have the time, space or knowledge to complete a project of this size so I'm very envious!

Mike, perhaps I could pop over and see when it's done?

Cheers!
Andy

Of course you can mate, would be good to finally meet you

Got some more almost-new M5 stuff to sell I thought we'd need and didn't, like 6 month old engine mounts and 25,000 mile steering box, will do a post with all the spare stuff when I've finished it

It's off to Heyward and Scotts on the 25th for a full stainless exhaust system, then back to actually get it running, another week of work wiring it up. Fitting it is the easy bit...

Very impressive

You are a gifted mechanic when you pull this off..So many loose ends to tie up, we can't imagine half of the work involved..

I have to credit Bill in Oz who's been through all this already, we exchange emails most days and he's been a great help pointing me in the right direction

Now there's two!!! Wonder how they are going to sound. Be sure to post sound clips. I saw someone who recently got an e46 m3 powered e30 325i with SMG transmission, padle shifters and all. Sounded amazing on start up. If this sounds as good I may have to do it to mine when the time comes.

Lovely Job Mike, can't wait to see the finished product.

Would this transplant be easier into a 540i? Or would you still need to relocate all the plumbing?

Cheers, Geoff.
