Sump gasket & Oil pump alltogether?

Gents

As you know, some work is coming up on my beloved Sebring. We're talking Clutch, d-shaft bearings, 'box mounts, etc


I had a leaky sump gasket from day one. I believe it would be easier to take the sump off with the gearbox loose, since its only the two engine mounts that hold the engine then.

Anyways, with the sump off, would it be wise to opt for a preventive oil-pump change? My oil press light goes off after 1 sec at startup when its not driven for a long time. No problems whatsoever.

Better sooner than later M8! What else are you gonna spend money anyhow?

As you know I had the same problem a few weeks ago

I had to change the sump gasket and clutch etc

My pump is okay... i think

Is your gasket leaking at the front left or right hand side? I was informed that this is normal for a BMW and happens regularly

I suppose it comes down to the price of an oil pump.....how much are they and how difficult to fit?

Remember not to leave the sump without oil in it for too long a period as it will be difficult to get the oil pressure to come up again( something to do with a pressure relief valve or something)

What clutch are you putting on? the Bmw clutch is as cheap as the aftermarket ones at the moment £184+vat GBP to be exact......unless you are going for an upgraded one that is....

And by the way it is much easier to fix the sump gasket with the gearbag out.....

From what I remember an oil pump is quite reasonably priced? Around 100 odd GBP? Easy to change,might as well have a chain and tensioner aswell,but then where do you stop????? (timing chain/tensioners,etc)

Hi Wout, I would leave the oil pump if pressure is still OK.

I'm not sure how many KLMS are on your engine, but generally you should not need to change the pump until an engine rebuild is required. As Geach says, where do you stop? If you replace the pump, you should also change the chain etc etc....
