Bmw e34 m5 with 91 octane

Hi I live in canada and I only have a 91 octane fuel. does this affect on my engine? could it be wrong if I put that type of fuel in my m5?

Hi,
95 octane minimum.
98 octane reccomended.
You will end up killing your engine.

If this is a 3.6 canadian market vehicle, your car will produce optimum power with 95 octane unleaded as calibrated.
I believe the 3.6 will run on 91 octane but with reduced performance so not recommended for say track work or high altitude.
The 3.6 was not as highly strung as the 3.8 & had a different Bosch Motronic engine management system.
98 octane fuel in any std E34 M5 will not bring any benefit perceived or otherwise.

If it were my car for every day commuting etc, I would not be concerned unless track work or high altitude / high ambient driving was the norm.

I would contact Mark Dslyva who is based in Canada. He is a member (MarkD) of this board & is a very competant engineer & knows the std management & how to get some improvements from it.
He will advise on your best course of action.

Cheers

I thought you used a different octane rating in the US. Where your 91 is closer to our 95RON
