MOT??

I keep seeing posts about this. What is it exactly? Is this a UK inspection that all cars must pass to be licensed? Seems bloody thorough considering all the problems people have with it. Over here we have emissions and that's it! Any piece of crap can litter the road.

MOT - every car over 3 years old in the UK has to get a 12monthly inspection to assure its road-worthyness. Once passed, you get a certificate that is now electronically registered on a database. If your car has no MOT/is unlicensed, automatic number plate detector cameras in the back of police cars and specialised vans can pulll you up and issue you a ticket - sometimes confiscating the car. It is also necessary to have this certificate to gain insurance, and to buy road tax on the car.

Its not exactly that thorough, many people think its a warranty of a cars health, but its pretty basic really, and tries to ensure that lethal cars are not allowed on the roads.

Theres also lots of crap driving around over here! As Alan said without an MOT you cannot get Tax/insurance but then theres people who dont bother with any of it! I can see the theory, drive rubbish and if it gets confiscated sod it go and get another heap!
Come to think of it most of these vehicles are probably driving around Cornwall!

Luckily driving over there is adapted to suit and so are road speeds.

BTW if you google MOT and LAWS you'll read all you want to know.....
