if you say so I am sure you are right but from what I remember this is NOT a factory fit on the -Werner + Marion car- but as I do not have my files around at the office I just might be wrong - ??

Hi Karl It does look like the factory fit one to me as I saw one once on a late model Belgian registered car.

If it is not factory fit then would love to know how to fit one may saw me a new rear end as people have no idea of the braking capacity and sit far too close on my bumper....!

High brake light

In Germany, the option to have a high brake light came 1/95, that applies to most other European markets, in US, the law reacquired that from the start of the E34 Touring, in fact from model year 1986, so look for a used window/spoiler from a late model car, that's my tip.

A friend of mine, changed the complete rear window that had the spoiler with brake light already on it, on this car, a 1996 540iAT with M-Technic bumpers and white front indicators from factory...

This is the thing that to fit this rear high level stop light you have to fit a new rear window as well as a new rear spoiler! Which is more expensive!

If the rear window cracks and is covered by my insurance I will endevour to have this rear window so I can take advantage of this option.

I don't remember exactly but I think Daniel paid €100-150 for the complete window/spoiler, all model year 1996 E34 Touring have them as factory fit in Sweden, look at www.bildelsbasen.se for a used one.

Regards Stephan

Hi everyone,
I had to fit the new rear window and the third light to Federalize my M5 T Daytona Violet in the US.
I also did this myself , and also did it to another Touring a friend federalized here.
I just bought the whole rear liftgate from a salvage yard in Texas ($ 500 including shipping) and switched the window, light and spoiler, plus I kept all the parts from the salvaged door as spares, and used some already.
Not so difficult (once you've broken the first window like I did, because I did not THINK!!!) The painstaking thing was to get the "tinting" (that the previous owner had fitted) off the glass: took me two full days!!!
There are many 5 Tourings in the salvage yards.

"Violona" is doing well and being driven everyday by her rightful owner: my daughter, but she loans it to me every now and then (so that I can wash it, check everything and fill her up of course: what we would not do for our offspring!!!).
BTW just got some new Goodrich g force sports: very good at very reasonable cost, I'm very satisfied.

Jaime

DO NOT DARE.......NOT ON A AVUSBLUE
-
the -white- upper rear lenses are available from a swedish supplier, i.e. you
either brake your original-rear-light-sets or you get a 2nd supply from a breaker and take them apart to fit the -white- lenses.

(rumours have it that -white-rear-lights are/were availble from ALPINA, if that
is correct it wud mean $$$$$$$$$.....)
-
it might look good (matter of opinion and taste) on a silver car and also on a red BUT -avusblue- should remain OEM -
-
BUT, of course, your car, your choice, your decision, your money...
