Feedback on slow M5 3.8l?

My M5 3.8l fell a bit slow, the respond on the gas not great. In 14 days I get the E.A.T chip hope this vil help on this.

But yesterday I was driving fast and hard for about 30 km, then the car had really good respond, and it fell like 50 hp more. Some of your guys had the same on yours ?

I no when you got many hp, and you been driving it for some time, you get use to it. But last night there was a big deferens...

Car probably just needed a good clear out. These cars don't llike not being driven, or being driven at low revs.

Clearing them out is such a chore!!!

Diamond?

bay; OT, Does your black M5-95 have Individual paint? 181 Diamantschwarz? Could be the only 1995 Limo in that color if so.

Understand Swedish? Check out www.e34m5.se questions in English ok also.

Regards Stephan

Hi

Yes they need a clear out otherwise the fail to perform properly. There is even a section in the manual that tells you to drive at higher revs that 3000 if you have been in traffic for a while as they tend to get coked up and they don't like that at all.

So moral of the story drive faster.... as if we need encouragement....!

Yes the color is 181.

This engine is not fresh, it got 162.000 km on the clock but this winter I´m making a rebulid on it. The engine I make last winter was sold.

Just drive fast so , not so long ago we got new rules so it´s easy to loos you driving lecens

If I hold the revs high in 3th gear the engine rattle a lot.

After you have been driving the same car for a while you get used to what it can do , particularly if you like to drive quickly. Therefore you start thinking that your car is getting a bit slow. While all cars eventually start to lose their speed the 3.8 is better than most at keeping its original qualities.

I drove a Dodge Viper whilst on holiday a while ago. When I got back the M5 felt slow. But once I had vipped a couple of roundabouts at reasonable speed I realized things were relative. The Viper is quicker ( 510bhp and 535 ft/lbs with 150 kg less weight ) but when you approach the limit things tend to even out. The M5 has a fast mode where everything goes light because you are on the limit and you have a good chance of controlling it without being Michael Schumacher whereas something like the Viper merely reminds you " I have high limits, when you reach those make sure the hospital is close by".

I've never had a car that would take the limits as high as an M5 and still seat 4 people.

The 3.8's (Not sure if the 3.6's?) have an adaptive DME which learns/adapts to your driving style. If you drive round like an old man then your performance will be muted.

Well I have been driving for some time in the city.

Think adaptive DME is on the 3.8l so, because the changes was big, and I had a big smile on

I have the schrick 280 degres camshaft in, and 3.6l flywhell so think it´s going to be great with the E.A.T. chip

My M5 Touring feels very slow and hard to drive normaly comparing when I'm now using my other car 535i -91.

When accelerating fast with M5 the difference is huge comparing 535i as it should be but when driving normaly I rather drive my 535i.

Maybe it's the huge weight of M5 Touring...
