M5 Touring - why so cheap?

This Touring has been for sale for quite some time - it's only £5000!

1992 BMW M5 3.8 4dr Touring
109,000 miles, Touring. Genuine M5 LHD. Superb condition for year. Full black leather no tears. Self leveling Electronic suspension option fitted. TAX and MOT. Very quick for an estate. Lots of history from Germany & UK. £4,995. ovno

Anyone know anything about it? Is it a turd?

Sal

I think you will find that fellow member M5 CFF has purchased the car and is at present assessing the condition and if and what needs to be done.

He has also already informed Karl!

I'm collecting her this Saturday. Seller appears to be genuine. Seemed to drive very well & be in very good condition. I've HPI'd her & she's straight. Once I've got her, I'll take her to Munich Legends for a full check over. So far, so good. I'll give you an update asap.

This is the only part of the thread that concerns me.
Imho, I would never take a car there for inspection or service work from past experience.

Best of luck with your new car.

I'm interested having bought my car from Munich Legends. Why the negative vibes about them inspecting or doing service work?

Interested in Farrell's comments re: ML.
I used to get my M5 e34 3.8 serviced by them for several years. Never had a problem with ML. Liked the way they would produce a hitlist of items that needed attention, prioritising them, providing an estimate of costs & then let you decide what & when should be actioned, according to your budget i.e. attentive but not presumptive.
PM me in confidence, if you prefer.
Regards Chris

I have no knowledge or experience with this organization, however from reading this forum I would not utilize them as there have been many questions posted about the establishment. I believe they must be a popular service center as they are often referenced. Popularity does not mean top quality. IMHO.

I think the problem with ML, is that they are a well known organisation that employs many people to do their work. It is hard for a company to maintain standards of every mechanics work on behalf of the company name, and requires extra dilligence and effort to ensure a consistency in quality of work.

They are one of the biggest independant specialists, and built up a good reputation in SELLING good examples of s/h bmw classics, not necessarily their spannering skills. I have no experience of their work though, so can not really comment on this area.

Have to LOL at the fact Farrell still has a Munich Legends sticker in the back window of his brassiere wearing garage queen

Firstly congrats on the purchase.

Like Farrell I am also very wary of ML. I've bought a few cars "fully serviced" by them only to find so many things that were meant to be done NOT.

There are better places to go in my honest opinion. Phil Crouch @ Birds UK, Kevin Bird @ Birds UK and Bexley MotorWorks are excellent and probably a hell of a load cheaper.

I have faith in Munich Legends and would recommend them over a number of garages. Birds UK in Uxbridge are pretty good too. If you go in with your eyes open and ask sensible questions ML are reliable, honest and not over expensive.
