Vibration - need help of where to look

As title suggests, I have a vibration at certain speeds.

Before I take it to a garage and get my pants pulled down maybe some of you could make some suggestions so that maybe I could take a look myself.

Here's the problem and this occurs with both sets of balanced wheels I have.

between 70 and 80 mph car vibrates. Steering is ok, it seems tobe coming from the back/middle of the car. It's getting worse. The vibration is not that bad right now but i don't want to damage something in the time that it does get very bad.

Could it be prop centre bearing? Subframe bushes? Diff problem?

It's 100% not wheel/trye related.

Help greatly appreciated by wallet and me.

Sal

Can you hear any CLONK noise when using the clutch on traffic?
Mine, when the centre bearing died made a vibration at certain speeds, and then disapeared. If you have a look under the car...

Wheels balanced ?
E34 is very sensitive to wheel balance & they should be checked every 6k miles.
A weight might have fallen off...
Start here & work your way through.

Yorldi - there is a bit of drive train "looseness" in town.

farrell - I'll try balancing again.

Thanks

When you are definately satisfied with the wheel balancing, the prop would be the next place I would look?

That's it, as I learnt with a "Golfrallyethatbreakseveryweek" always begin taking care of cheap things, 'cos sometimes it's just a detail.
I'd put my fingers on the prop bearing though...

The exhaust is coming off anyway soon so taking off the prop is not going to take much longer.

Will get the centre bearing changed then.

Just taking time to choose the exhaust I want.

When i'm in my parking garage (good accoustics) I can hear a "clonk" when I depress the clutch fast. What is this?
