Just got my bilstein sports.........

So I ordered two Bilstein sports, P36-3019, off of Bavauto. 1991 M5 Shocks according to them, which arrived last week. Upon trying to install them, the top nut on the strut which goes in the tower bushing wouldnt fit! I believe this one is a 22mm, and I need the 19mm. Bavauto sent me the wrong ones I guess? What is a solution to this without sending the shocks back and waiting for new ones? Get a different set of tower bushings that accomodate the 22mm? Suggestions? I really want these shocks in, I'm tired of my clunk clunk clunk in the front wheels !

i would say if the car has alot of miles on it might be a good idea to replace the upper strut bearing. you probably can make the order and specify you want the bearings with the 22mm hole, or you can just send the old ones back and get the 19mm ones to fit your original bearings, either way you will have to wait, sorry about that i know the feeling when you have to wait to put new parts on the ride.

They sent you the wrong struts. the diameter of the shaft in the upper strut-mount is different too.

If you look in the online Koni catalog and the online Bilstein catalog you'll see different shocks are made for both mounts.

I think it changed 07/1990 (production date) Your car is must be pre this. I know Illjah put the Konis on the front with pn - 8641-1157, the pn for later cars is 8641-1224.

production date 4/90

when I put in my vin on realom.com it comes up with a 4/90 production date for mine, but I have 22mm nut. I guess it's possible a PO might have changed out the mounts?
