Got a Result

YO ppl

Took my new M Parellels back to the dealer and got my money back.
So if any one wants a new set they are at The Country Garage, Ballymena Northern Ireland (BMW Dealer so you can get them on the home site) Ask for Andy he would sell them cheaper if anyone is interested. And no I'm not affiliated !!!!

Now I have a problem. No wheels

I have almost 700 quids worth of tyres and nothing to put them on
So come on guys give some hints.

Also my front lights are lookin a bit tired...... is there anything better that gives me more than the 4 wax candles that are in them !!!!

The only real modification I made to my M5 was a set of Xenon lights.

This was before there was a supply of conversion kits, so I made my own out of some Merc E500 lamps - I think there are quite a few kits to choose from now, so get yourself some new lamps and fit xenons to them. Quite a few of the guys here have bought conversion kits recently, no doubt they will be along soon.

Wheels? Hmm. I do love those M Parallels, perhaps you should consider some of those? Ha ha ha!!

Why did you give them back?

Maybe get some genuine 18" Alpina wheels?

As for your lights, get a spanking new set with some HID's fitted. CA Automotive does some HID stuff.

I thought the wheels looked a bit drab in colour.

I ordered polished finish and got painted, ignorantly thinking that they were standard for an m5. WRONG !! i have since found out this and have been dissapointed by the look. My dealer agreed that it was his fault for not describing properly what i was getting so he took them back. Also they still look very "small" on the car and i am in a dilema as what to do. I dont want to loose the original look but think that a 19" wheel would suit better. Don't know about the handling/driveabilty of the car with these on and also i have 18" tyres staring at me everytime i go to the shed

Anyway I will look at the lights on the web and go from there . Thx for that .

Hi Stevieboy

Glad you got the wheels returned and your money back!

Right lights. The CA Automotive xennon kits are fantastic I and a few others have this kit installed and the change is stunning from the four weak candles to real lights. Recommend that you get this done as soon as possible.

The look from the outside is the same as standard until the lights are turned on when they give a much better spread of light and the characteristic xennon light.

There is also a kit that gives Angel eyes conversion like the late model E39 cars, the rings of light which then act as the sidelight. Not my personal choice but some people like them.

Just search the board for a "Angel Eyes" I am sure you will find the thread or two regarding these lights.

Simon

Look again in the thread link i posted, there are two link to places that sell them - one is in the US not sure on the other.

Although they can look nice, replica wheels can sometimes be poorly made, and require excessive balancing weights, or can be susceptible to slight bending / warping with minor knocks / pit holes. There is a reason replicas are sometimes referred to as "non-rounds". Also replicas can be not forged and therefore heavier. If I was to go non-OEM I would rather get a branded set of wheels rather than unbranded replicas.

I would also be sceptical about fitting 19" rims to an e34 without serious ride/handling comprimises.

Best bet is to buy your 18" OEM wheels back (thru someone else so you can get them at the cheaper price!!!) and pay to get the rim polished, it won't cost too much, and you'll still have OEM rims with all the benefits, and the look you want. Either that or buy some s/h e39 M-Parallels with the polished rim, and fit with spigot rings (hub is different diameter than e34).

I agree with the replica wheels problem above are not the best option.

19" I think are not the way to go. Practicality I would expect this to subtantially upset the handling. Also this will cause issues with the suspension i.e. you will have have the suspension adjusted to take into account the 19" and I am not sure that there is sufficent range of adjustments to handle this change. The other thing is the tyre you would have to run on a 19" to accomodate the wheels in the arch and allow enough clearance, both for steering and when hitting bumps, could be of a very low profile which based around the idea that these replicas are less resillent means they would be subject to more chances to bend!

Remeber the M5 is a heavy car and when you are using the beast to some of its potiencial I think you will be hampered by 19" wheels. It may look good standing still but that is no good at all.
