M5 brakes on 750il???

I was wondering if my M5 brakes would fit on a 750il? I have the oportunity to trade for a set of 4 pots straight across!

also to fit the 4 piston brakes, do I use my standard rotor, or the one from the 750il?

also what else is needed to fit the 4 piston calipers? my M5 is a 92 3.8L 5speed, so I don't think I have the bigger brakes (thats 95 only right?)
thanks

i've read that post, and it doesn't really answer my question.

I have two main questions...

1. will 750il 4 piston calipers fit on my 1992 3.8L M5... that includes the stock rotors that are currently on the car, or do i need to change the rotors as well?

2. will my 1992 3.8L M5 front calipers fit on a E32 750il?

I re-read the thread and to my eyes neither answer my questions
thanks
Eric

Did you look at the following site?

http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/brakes.htm

My reading of it suggests that the calipers are interchangeable (at least if they come from an E32 750iL), but that you will also need to exchange the rotors.

Good luck with it.

Cheers

And have them drilled to accomodate the studs on the e34 hubs. The e34 brakes will fit the e32 750iL, but the discs will have 2 big holes in them.

Absolutely YES.

I'm going through the same process.

The calipers test-fitted no problem. They will work with the standard 315mm discs. Ans as stated above the e32 rotors (324mm x 30mm) will fit if you drill the extra hole it them.

Interestingle on real OEM the part numbers for rebuild kit and a couple of other parts are the same.

I now have a question, will the 345mm floating calipers fit? How similar are they?

I wouldn't recommend to drill holes, this isn't very good for the stability of the brake discs. Get the wheel bearings from the E32 - they don't have the mentioned studs - and you can mount the discs without any drilling (and any future drilling in case you need new brake discs). At least, thats the way I did it.

They wouldnt really work with the standard (315mm) discs, because the brake pads are made for the 324mm discs, thus they would overlap over the standard disc (I tried it - no good ).

Hi Tobias,

I haven't had that reccommended yet. Does the lack of so little material so close to the centre really make such a difference?

Did you experience it befor you changed?

T

PS may catch up later in the year, Kon is going to keep me updated on any german meets.

I can just tell about my experience: I put both (my old 315mm disc and the 324mm disc) on top of each other to have my old disc as a template for the drill hole: the supposed drill hole partly overlapped with another hole of the 324mm disc (maybe I got some strange 324mm discs, who knows? ). And I surely didnt want to have two overlapping holes in there, thus would mean alot more instability.
And just take it from the easy side: with new wheel bearing, they arent too expensive, you wont have to change them in the near future and you wont have any trouble to drill new holes in any new discs you might need in the future.

PS: Looking forward to another meeting!
