PAS/SLS Pentosin CHF 11S filling

Check the PAS and SLS bottle today and wasn't 5mm above the bottom of the strainer (as per the manual). Topped up drove for a bit then check again after the engine had cooled down. Topped up again and a hour later the fuild was no where to be seen. Just had the car check over and there are no leeking shocks.

It this normal? keep adding until it balances out or is there somthing sinister a foot?

Hi Graham
Firstly, When Ive had to fix leaks or replace edc related components, I top up only so the fluid is JUST visible at the base of the filter mesh when cold.
If its much higher than this, Under hard usage & high ambient air temps, the fluid will expand & leak past the cap seal & down the tank.

Under normal conditions, you should not have to top up the pas / edc reservoir.

I suspect a leak somewhere.
Get the car up on a ramp & start looking at the tops of the dampers for leakage.
Then move to the self levelling accumilator valve asy above the differential.
This part should be easy to identify as its has a actuator rod attaching to the rear anti-roll bar.

The sls/edc pipe work fails due to rot & is always replaced with the valve as you cant separate the parts.

Moving forward to the front of the car.
Undo the engine undershields & examine the sls & pas pipes for leakage.
Pas pipes from ther reservoir often sweat, but theres a big difference between sweat & leak.

Any leakage will be obvious.
Just take your time.
These cars should be regularly inspected from underneath anyway for peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice.

Typical, I’ve just checked the car this morning and the fluid is just above the strainer cap. These cars must be female! one minute they are telling you something, the next they are saying something completly different.

I don’t think the cap has been sealed properly from the last main dealer service as there is fluid on the sides of the cylinder . I had the car up on the ramps last weekend (indy service) and add a good check of the shocks, with the wheels of and all of them were bone dry. Just as well as they are all about 20,000 miles. Also the turnip shaped (you can tell I’ve been to Uni) thing at the back was dry.

One thing we didn’t do was take the cover off and have a good look at the pipework which I’ll do shortly. For the moment I’ll stop adding the top ups and see if the fluid is still present at the same level (top of the strainer) at the end of the week.

Farrell thanks again
