M-technic mirrors fitted today

I finally fitted my infamous mirrors today after a bit of fiddling with the wiring.
They look great..
As mirrors, they are a complete waste of time
Loads of blind spots & not enough adjustment to see much as the field of view is very narrow.

I admit that its been a long time since I have driven an lhd M5 with this type of mirror fitted.
I just dont remember vision being so bad.

Anyway, they are staying for now.

Note to Board members :-
If I have anymore stupid ideas, will you please do your best to stop me doing it..!

Thanks

Farrell

Hi Wout
Yes, we have already talked about the days events.
I got alot done today on the cars & the garden..
I will post some pics tomorrow.
It was too dark to do it by the time I had finished putting my daughter to bed.

A really productive day (apart from the mirrors being a functional disapointment)

Regards
Farrell

I know exactly what you mean, and I'm sure I warned you about it, but you didn't listen

Obviously my E36 M3 had the same type of mirrors. I think taping some teaspoons to the A pillars would give you better rear visibility!!!

Hi James
It took a total of 3 hrs.
This includes all removal & refit of trim.
Removal of all block connectors from harness.
Rewiring the mirror pins to match the door harness connectors.
Assembly of mirrors to doors.

Taking time ensures you dont damage the door trim retaining clips which are very brittle.

You could do it in less time but damage more of the trim clips so you need to have spares.

All LOOKS good though.

as far as I remember, you were told about the visibility-issues but you wud not listen.................
now it is -your- job to pass the sad truth on.... it is not likely to stop someone who -really- wants these mirrors but at least we have told them then........
enjoy the good look, nice design and a job well done

Hi Karl
Yes, I was told about size of mirror lens & the width of view it gives compared to std mirrors. I remember this being bad.

I cant recall anyone saying that the limited physical range of electrical adjustment would prevent the drivers side mirror seeing anything more than my passengers & the 'C' pillar..!

See pics below including no4 which says it all.

Cheers
Farrell

Picture 4 does make it worse than it really would be, because of course you don't have your face against the glass when you're using the mirror!

That car bra, Darren - What on earth is going on there? xx(

Nope.

@ Farrell, it seems there's no wide-angle glass available for these mirrors, any chance on filling out the mounting of elctric motor a l little?

I think you will find that the E36 version was derived from the E34 M5 version as the Motorsport mirrors and I think they were an option from when the 3.8 was introduced.

But maybe Farrell could use the mirror glass from a RHD E36 and this may give a little bit more vision?
