In short, No
I looked at this aspect before putting the door panels back on.

There are 2 datum pegs & a big screw that locate & pull the mirror onto the door flitch.

To bring the mirror back to an ideal position, you need a 3mm thick packer.
If you do this , the mirror will not seal properly to the flitch & wind noise will occur.

Add to this the screw & cupped washer that ensure that the mirror is pulled flush & square up against the door flitch then being forced to secure at 7.5 degrees out of alignment, does not bode well for this method.

I don't like to shout but, YOU CANNOT USE E36 MIRRORS WITHOUT SERIOUS MODIFICATION!!!!!! I HAVE COUPE MIRRORS ON MINE AND EVEN WITH MODIFICATION THEY STILL DON'T FIT PROPERLY. THEY FUNCTION PERFECTLY (EVEN HEAT), BUT THE CONTOURS OF THE SUPPORTS ARE ADAPTED FOR THE M3. ALSO BE AWARE THAT THE E36 SEDAN MIRRORS ARE DIFFERENT STILL AND REQUIRE SERIOUS METAL GRINDING AND REDRILLING TO FIT. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND GET THE E34 M5 MIRRORS.

Hate to shout, but it seems you're the only one to even try fitting the wrong parts....... What does that tell you?

Our local decendant of the famous corrupt Dukes of Hazzard Police Department chief, Darren P. Coltrane appears to be wide awake. Haven't seen much of his coffee-getter EnosE however.........

The only partnumbers that are the same are the lenses and the housing, the feet (adapterplates) are definitely different as stated very clearly below. Farrell ordered the correct e34 parts, as many others have. Shout all you want, but don't make the guys doing it right look like pricks just because you ordered the wrong part. If you have anything usefull to add to this off-topic discussion feel free to PM me at jackass@m5board.com......

(In a quiet and calm voice) Brad I think you have missed the first post by Farrell regarding M-Tecnic mirrors which was a while ago.

He has obtained the correct mounting plate for M-Technic (See got it right that time Karl) mirrors (These are often refered to incorrectly as Motorsport Mirrors and M3 mirrors) and fitted them as they were when fitted as optional equipment for the E34 M5, not sure of the date when they became optional but some time during the 3.8 era I think.

The problem possibly stems from the fact that the mirrors were only available for left Hand Drive E34s. This may mean that the angle for the passenger mirror (which is the drivers side in the UK) is incorrect and has caused the lack of vision.

We are all fully aware that you cannot use the E36 mirrors on an E34 but to my knowledge and this has been confirmed by others if you read this thread you can use the mirror lenses which is what Farrell has done. These were made for right hand drive and should allow the correct field of vision.

The problem could be caused by the mounting plate which as descibed above was only made in LHD format (provided you want the original equipment) and this is the problem we are trying to solve.
