Hey guys, I currently have the stock setup in my car. Stock faceplate/tape deck with 6 disc sony changer in trunk. I'd like to switch to something that will allow me to play mp3 cds and be connectable to my ipod. I'm thinking that the simplest option is to remove the changer completely and then just put a new single disc deck up front that plays mp3 cds and has ipod input?
Can anybody recommend some nice, low key looking units that will somewhat match the look of the interior? I don't want a bunch of nasty coloured lights and flashing crap.
Alpine head unit Alpine Alpine CDE-9845RB with a display that allows you to change its colours to match your dash display. Plays MP3's, IPOD connection and no more than £180. Face plate comes off too!
If you fancy something slightly more retro how about this. Becker Mexico Pro 7937.

Its amazing how unattractive most of the head units are these days and how badly they fit into dashboards. I am not one to drive around in a pimpmobile and think that the less gaudy the hi-fi the better. Alpine do make great quality kit and Becker make good looking more retro style equipment which delivers. Keep us posted with what you find on your search.

Burton, I have an Alpine unit and agree with you regarding the colours. It fits in beautifully, the sound quality with good 'hidden' speakers is excellent and the 'glow' is not too extreme....a good choice.

Try the Becker 7945 with Bluetooth or the 7949 without bluetooth.
MP3- Using compact flash cards or the CD MP3/CD/Radio/Navigation/Sound processor and finally voice control for the lot. Also coded and has a removable panel for extra security.
I have a 7945 unit fits the E34 dashboard like it was built for it and works fantastically well. Also works as my built in Handsfree car kit for my mobile phone muting the radio and pausing the CD or MP3 playback when a call is made or recieved also supports voice dialing.
Also I agree with the others fit uprated speakers in standard positions for a full stealth install.
In the Touring I have addtional amps and a hidden 12" sub with no loss of luggage space and all but invisible instal.
As Legacy260 states hidden install reduce the "break in" factor.
