European Breakdown Insurance / Recovery - Nurburgring trip

Right, this is particularly in relation to the Nurburgring trip - anyone recommend any breakdown recovery?

What with the problems with my car, IF i manage to ressurect it in time, I'll be keen to make sure should something terrible happen, I can count on getting the car back to the UK without too much fuss. I have AA cover, and I already know the AA's policy on the Nurburgring, add to that a colleagues recent experience of struggling to return a water logged land rover from france with the AA's incompetence.... i mean 'help', has meant I'm really keen to get some additional GOOD and comprehensive insurance to recover/salvage my car should something bad happen. Accident recovery would be a good option too! Although I'd hope not to use it!!!

Found this thread Nurburgring preparation hints & tips that may shed some light on things for us newbies to Der Ring....

So RAC cover then maybe? Will they recover accident damaged vehicles as well? I just want reassurance that no matter how ugly events may turn out, I don't have to worry about a) getting the car home and b) continuing my european trip via amsterdam on the way home (provided I am not experiencing German hospital treatment!)

I have RAC annual european cover, but before I had that I used to buy my breakdown cover from my car insurance company, to cover european journeys for the holiday.

I seem to remember a week was about £25, the contact details are:

That would only be handled by your insurance company. I believe the normal situation is...

Crash
Pay ADAC truck to recover you off the NS
Ring insurance co
Get courtesy car, carry on with hol
You get home
Car gets repatriated or written off

I *really* wouldn't like to test it out.

that's the bit i'm worried about "car gets written off" - even if its written off I want the car back in the uk - is there no way other than just paying for it via standard measures should this happen???

i think a dented door would write off my 3.6 in the eyes of the insurance company - particularly as I'm with Elephant.co.uk.

If writing the car off is cheaper than repatriating it, you probably wouldn't get a say in the matter, and of course posting it back would no doubt be expensive.

Only other problem may be the issue with the age of our cars.

Because they are over 10 years old theyattract a premium so that may also have an influence on the cover.

Thinking like this about your first trip to the ring is GOOD.
I always have extended AA Breakdown recovery.
I have 180 days green card cover on my policy & a £1000 excess on track cover.
Andy is spot on...
Work on the plan that you dont have to test it.
Try to get your mindset around a cruise round a long toll road with losts of scenic bends, cambers & undulations.

We all drive there & we all drive back.
