Troubleshooting intense wash button?

Alright guys since i got my car the headlight/fog light wash has not worked.
I replaced the relay and now the washers work along with the windscreen wash, however the the intense wash button on the right hand stalk no-longer works.
The other functions work - could it be the stalk of something more annoying?

Any ideas appreciated!!

I would double check the relays part number & spec first....

Perhaps it is incorrect, as not all models have headlamp wash system.

Regards,

Alan.

Mine used to work and has now stopped working. It seems to be an electronically balanced system, so if any component goes out of tolerance then it fails; on mine if you unplug the intensive washer bottle pump but leave the others connected, then the intensive wash button works again. At some point i'll be replacing all the pumps in an attempt to fix this, I suspect they must all add up to the correct resistance electronically.

mines similar - intense wash doesnt seem to work, but if i remove the connection to the regular wash pump it starts working - time to look at the wiring diagram i guess

I have the same problem also. My BMW dealer said that the relays are fine and the fault diagnostic test pointed to a break in the wiring. He suggested a new wiring loom, but have not investigated this yet. Any one gone down the new loom route and how much work is involved?

well a quick look at the wiring diagram would lead me to a couple of possibilities that i'll investigate tommorow.

A) realy fubared
B) wiring to A) fubared
C) General Module in rear power distribution box fubared
D) Wiring to C) fubared

Intensive Washer Pump - NO Power

BUMP

Been reading this thread, wondering if anyone has found a solution?

Recently, I had a leaky intensive washer pump (still working as I could hear the pump turn when I press the "S" button on the washer stalk), in an attempt to fix the rubber seal that fits at the bottom of the intensive solution tank I broke one of the nipples on the pump...just brittle I guess. Anyway I bought a new washer pump and rubber seal. When I installed everything, the "S" button wouldn't work anymore ????

In attempt to trouble shoot, if you unplug the intensive washer bottle pump but leave the others connected, then the intensive wash button "S" works again.

Also, I confirmed that the new washer pump works by connecting it to the main washer tank and running it from there, and the pump does energize and spin. So it's NOT the pump.

I checked the fuses #22 & #24 - OK, I then replaced the little grey relay #61361393415 with a new one - still no joy??

I connected a digital volt meter to the intensive washer pump connector, and noticed that as soon as I press the "S" button the volt meter jumps to 12V for a split second. This lead me to believe that voltage is reaching the connector but only on for a split second and not long enough to allow the washer pump to work.

HELP, any ideas...it just seems so strange that a simple pump replacement can cause this problem

Since this was posted I replaced all the pumps (3) but this made no difference. I just drive with the intensive wash pump disconnected now so intense wash works. I guess if one of us finds the fault it will be the same for all of us - seeing as the workaround is the same (disconnect intensive wash pump).

Have the same problem too !.........Changed the intensive wash pump ( the upper one ? ) with a good one and to my surprise it didn't work. Disconnected one of the wires and surprisingly it worked via the S button !

I think the intensive pump is different from the standard one...does anyone have specific part numbers for these pumps ?

I don't think it's the wash pump that's the problem. Since I still have the original pump, with broken exit nipple. In an attempt to trouble shoot why the new one doesn't work I reconnected the old one, and still the S button is a no go? (I will confirm this again today).

As per Farrell's recommendation:

"Hello.
I rebuilt my intensive washer system one christmas about 4 yrs ago from the pump out through the maze of of "block connectors" & tubes & "T pieces that make up this complex washer system.
Most of my leak problems were the main block connector male & female that you separate when you remove the bumper bar for service work.
The male stub tubes have "O" rings that go missing & many dont replace them every 5 or 6 yrs so most are brittle & partially seal even when they are in place.
Also, the intensive

Anyway, the main concern is intermittant operation.
Its a common problem & as with most break out flyleads on the main engine harness servicing the accessories & sensors on the rhs of the engine compartment.
I think your problem is down to a poor earth or a intermittant 12 volt feed to the pump.
This is down to the brittle wiring so there will be as break somewhere & it may not be visible as the plastic sheah may still be intact.
I'm afraid you need to look at the flylead wiring to the pump ('s) & solder a repair piece using a piece of sheathed wiring & some shrink wrap over the top.
Now, my worst fear is the break is is JUST inside the connector that pushes into the pump.
This is what happened to two of mine & I had to split the connectors to put sleeved repair wire direct onto the terminals to get it all working again consistantly.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Farrell"

I replaced the old connector with a new one with aprrox. 12 inches of new wire. Still no joy.

Very very strange...is there a relay somewhere that needs to be checked, other than the ones mentioned above?
