Power Steering problem

My 3.6 has had SLS deleted and unfortunaltey one of the hoses at the rear started leaking.

So I blocked off some of the pipe work and got it a bit wrong. I blocked off the main feed from the power steering pump to the SLS and over pressurised the system and the feed pipe failed.

So now I have blanked off the pump itself where it fed the SLS.

problem I have is that itsnot working correctly now. its not bleeding itself and its making a whining noise all the time. Power steering fuild is being forced out of the reservoir.

So basically I think I've ruined the whole thing.

Can I fit a 535i Power steering pump? Will it bolt straight in?

OK you know what im about to say so I won't.


Use an E34 pump ( I think 535 is the least risk, but my money is on most E34 pumps being the same) without the SLS feeds, have contemplated that myself.

I found that the pump needs to get rid of its pressure for SLS and thus can ;t be topped right off. Recircing is the solution. I 'd try that first and see where you are when the dust settles, mine ran some time with very low fluid and all is fine now

this has been my fear of all the old SLS pipework being left in place.

check out this article at bavarian Auto Sports:

You'll need acrobat reader to view but has some good info on the SLS system.

(if you have troubles viewing [like wout!] then you can navigate thru from www.bavauto.com and click on tech info, then click on the "SLS elimination kit" link near the bottom of the page)

Ridding all that pipework is yet another job on the list of things to do in the long term...

Yes , the standard pump will bolt right in. Hoses are different and need to be changed.

you can also put the SLS feed line onto the return line of the pump.
works perfect and you don't have to buy another pump.

My problem is that i know nothing about this kind of pipework.

Sebring NL: You sell the pipework required for creating the loop? Does it come with all the right connections?

I serioulsy need to sort this out asap. If a 535i pump takes difference connections then its still not easy because I have to get a new connection on the old pipe.

I have those custom made using the connectors of the OEM ones.

Upgrade to 40% higher press capacity just to be sure.

have driven over 1000km with my setup ( high speed peaks) and no trouble.
Takes some effort to route the line well so it won 't give vibrations to the chassis, but this is easy candy for someone with your skills.

How quickly can you get a set sent over to the UK? I dont mind using express delivery services at a higher cost. I need my car back on the road.
