C.D.Changer problems

Hi all, can anyone shed any light on this one .
I had complete new wiring looms fitted to the rear hatch of my M5 touring by my competent BMW specialist and everything is working fine apart from the c.d. changer. The head unit in the dash ( original bmw buisness radio etc ) works fine on radio and tape but not on c.d. When I go to c.d. mode it wont go to it as if the head unit doesn't recognise the changer in the hatch back ( also original ). Any ideas appreciated.
The bmw specialist said he hasn't touched any wiring to do with the c.d.player and is puzzled like myself. BMW have checked it for free for me and are stumped also, but they didn't do a diagnostics check .

thanks in advance steve

Got power on the changer? Do you hear it moaning when you put in the cartridge of discs?
