Checking a VIN

I took down the VIN on an M5 I was looking at yesterday. Is CarFax the only way to check a VIN? I'm guessing there's no free way.

If anyone has a way of checking it's PBK06680 (Edited out full VIN at posters request)-WylM5

Thanks guys,

N

cool thanks. I checked the free portion of Carfax that said there were 7 reports on this VIN but of course wouldn't say what they were until I paid. Were there any info like this with that report?

Thanks again,

nix

I suggest you edit your first post now you have the info, leaving out a few digits in the VIN.

I have never felt comfortable displaying a VIN on a forum...

Actually it was more car history info that I was after but I appreciate Leba's willingness to help out a fellow enthusiast.

don't wanna sound harsh, but identifying the car through Realoem is not the real thing IMO.

Everyone can check the above figures on www.realoem.com, and the coolant amount figures and stuff are only a mouseclick away from anyone.

However,

when getting a buildsheet, one can truly see on which terms the dealership ordered that particular car at the BMW plant.

I would strongly recommend against putting any full VIN's on the net. This may seem unharmful but it's not worth the hassle.

People tend to forget thieves & chop shop guys watch the Net too, just like insurance people and law enforcement people on the "Race Stories" section.

Not worth the risk IMO.

( I will use the VIN's above to get the buildsheets in the morning and PM them to the members in reference)

W

That's kind of you - but I bet your dealership are fed up of it!
