Drag strip this sunday (UK) (1/4 mile your M5!)

Hi Guys
As I posted in December, there is a 'Run What Ya Brung' 1/4 mile run day this sunday 29th at Santa Pod UK, It should only cost about £30 for the day (£10 entrance, £20 sign on fee). This enables you to get as many runs as you can fit in throughout the day (Which will probably be about 4 depending on how busy it is).
If you've never been before it's in a place called Poddington (UK) just north of the M25. Once you reach poddington there's signs to Santa Pod, and there are directions on the website www.rwyb.com. There's a decent 1/4 mile drag strip with electronic timing so it will be an excellent location to pitch our motors against each other or get an idea of the overall 1/4 mile time for these cars (or there abouts as the track is ever so slightly uphill!). Who might be up for this? Anyone know what the weather is doing this Sunday?

-Greg

Hi
It was really poorly organised on Sunday, they started about 1pm cos of track conditions and kept on having to dry it over and over again (makes me think they need a better system really!!). Then a motorcyclist came off which delayed things further and someones car leaked coolant all over the track so we ended up just using one lane.

Anyway I put in a best time for that day of 14.4 sec at 98mph, it was very hard to get a good start as I kept sliding out, I also managed to rip off the gear stick head in my quick agressive gear changes (oops). I did 4 runs in total, that was my best time, during the other runs the broken gear stick kept coming away in my hand - not good when you are trying to smack it in to gear, I ended up changing gear with the metal rod that was left after the top broke off! I reckon with hotter tyres or on a dry hot day I could get 14sec. There were a lot of 2.0 clios putting in the same or better time than me :-(, tho they did appear supercharged..

Should the gear stick top just be push on or should it be screwed / bolted on? I've already ordered a replacement as the wires going to the illuminated part have got ripped apart and some plastic from inside has broken in to a few pieces.

I had that same problem at the last RWYB that I did! Quite embarrasing when the other blokes gone and your left sat there holding your knob!
Oh and yeah they just push on!

I have 5 gallons of methanol here that a colleague at work runs his race bike on,been looking for a guinea pig car to chuck some in and see what happens! No way its going anywhere near a decent car though as I expect major detonation is imminent!

Won't be supercharged - a Clio 172 or Cup will hit 14s with just a chip. With a good run you should beat them though.

But where would a Clio 172 be if you timed from 100mph to 160mph?

Fooking nowhere - that's where!!!
