Pretty sure the E39 rotors and callipers will not fit the E34. Not sure that I would want to either, I understand the E39 was not very good on brake performance. Farrell may have a better understanding of the specs if you were going to manufacturer a fix?

thanx for the input yewcorner. I am trying to find a contact for Dave Z., but his website seems to be down...? Also, patiently waiting for Farrell to chime in hehe...
with a turbo on the S38, it'll need brake upgrade for sure!
and the bit on the E39 brakes, (Rob Levinson is the Rob).
E39 M5 brakes definitively do NOT fit the E34. Rob tried a set last summer, BMW moved the carrier mounting holes about 2mm further apart. The rotors also do not have the dual 18mm posts required to fit the E34 M5 hubs.

Im not getting drawn into the Turbo charging thread also running.
The pinnacle of o/e brakes for E34 is & always will be the floating rotors & 4 pot ATE calipers.
The E39 guys would have killed for this set up on the M5.
Single pot sliding calipers on a 400 bhp saloon that was designed to be driven hard on minor roads as well as Autobahn...

Doh..
Farrell
Hi,
I for one knew a fair bit about the performance of the E39 M5 and the Engine Specifications, but not the braking performance (or lack of it - according to Farrell's details above....!).
...why would you want to retro-fit this to an E34 M5 - when (and I can testify) the floating big-brakes are fantastic, (if a little prone to warping if you don't let them cool down enough after an aggressive track day............!).

good feedback...reason is b/c I have a handle of getting some front E39 M5 brakes for a good price... looking into it as an alternate to the floating rotors & 4 pot ATE calipers, but I suppose that is silly!
okok, I give in. back to looking for some 4 pot ATE's
So Farrell, are you saying the best set up is the OEM floating rotors, but aftermarket 4 pot ATE calipers, or were the floating brake calipers made by ATE?
Reason I am asking is to ascertain whether there is an alternative to buying the OEM calipers.
Thanks

I thought the E39 came with Floating as I could of swarn I saw them on a E39 M5 that was in the garage where my Ap Racing brakes were fitted.
lol ok ok BURTON you 're hurting me with envy everytime you bring those up.. please, have a heart..
I have a question to, can anyone describe what is meant by "warping" ? Is this the rotor become "unbalanced"like when having your foot on the brake whilst warm and standing still??
