Just incase anyone wants to know, the Z3 1.9 shifter works superbly in a 6 speed box.

I fitted one last night in garage. Was very cold and I couldnt feel much by the end of it but it was well worth it!

I just bought a 1.9 Z3 Shifter and the plastic ball holder thing.

Total cost about £40 inc VAT.

Took me 1.5 hours from when I drove the car into the garage and then out again with no issues.

What problems di you have?

I can't get the rubber boot off!

Just pull it off with some brute force.

If you think its going to tear then apply some grease above and below where it sits on the lever and all will be good.

They arent expensive if it does tear.

Have you been under the car to see if you can remove the circlip and push the lever rod out of the gear selector yet? Wasnt easy on mine, had to use various tools to get it to move and there isnt alot of access.

NO idea for an e39 m5. You can try!

If the part number for the plastic gearstick ball holder is the same then it will fit but as to if the selector rod has the same fitting I dont know.

The probability is good to be honest, justy do some research on the parts and how they fit together and youll know.

had mine fitted today! Wow.. makes a huge different and I just want to keep driving the car!!!

Also its the first mod this year that I have done thats not a maintaince one!
