Hello new here-Hi Everybody

I am currently considering a specific E34 M5.A slightly rough looking 3.8 in metallic black/Blk leather with 190000 klms on it.The car is for sale relatively cheap, but I can see me(as I usually do)spending a lot of money on it.

It has Nurburghring suspension-which i'd probably rather it didn't as I know the cost of dampers is almost excactly the same as my 750iL's ones-and are probably past thier best.

Can I find useful buyer info here, and also more specificallyu info on removal of the nurburg setup?

Here's a wee pic of my '50

Thx a mill

Re: Hello new here-Hi Everybody

Removing the suspension isnt hard at all. Just replace it with Koni's and H&R stuff that I have tested.

Make sure the engine is good and gearbox.

Expect to replace all bushes.

Calipers should not be siezed.

Dont expect AC to work.

Welcome, good luck with the purchase, you'll need to use your savings to keep it going though!!

Re: Hello new here-Hi Everybody

Thanks

I remember a long winded article in BMW Car magazine some time ago about replacing the Nurburgring suspension-I imagine there maybe isn't too much to it.

Do some E34's have self levelling too(or do they all with nurburgring)?

Anyone help me value this car

It is 92/93 3.8

Its a left hand drive in our RHD country

190,000 klms

Metallic Black/Black leather

Leather trimmed glove box/centre console etc.(standard?)Blue rear parcel shelf?

No real history to speak of

Interior quite good/scuffy drivers seat

Exterior ok-ish,needs new bootlid(rust)new rear door(full of pudding)+bonnet(hood!)chippy/sm dent

Don't know what engine bay is like

Guy wants (fixed)£4000 Euro 6000

I would be happy at £3000,as we all know how easy it will be to spend loads.I'd like to go for a full paint and replace all the suspension, never mind anything else requiring attention!

Any links for buying advice/things to check!

Re: Hello new here-Hi Everybody

I would think about buying one on the continent (esp Germany) if you're going to be happy with left hand drive.

Seem to get more for your money.
I'm not sure how easy it is to export cars from germany, but can't be much harder than here in belgium.

You find the car and go to an agent/broker type guy who organises special transit insurance and licence plates (can be done in a morning), and off you drive.

Here's what's available in belgium at the moment

There's also a Winkelhock on ebay

and Germany

Re: Hello new here-Hi Everybody

Thanks for the links-the first one,the 3.6 in belgium certainly looks good! Its tricky to know what to do,this car i'm interested in originally appealed because it seemed surplus to requirements(a german family who own a hotel in Edinburgh brought it over, but it has been virtually unused for the last year)he had it advertised at £8995!!!!! a year ago but now at a more realistic £3995.

I thought I could probably buy it at the "right chips" but the owner had different ideas-said he'd sooner sell it back in germany!

Its one of these things,if I don't buy this car,I'll have to decide how much I really want to start searching for one!

Re: Hello new here-Hi Everybody

Fair enough,

I ended up buying mine when the car I had lined up (Saab 9000T) blew the turbo the day i was supposed to pick it up.

And while i was waiting for it to be fixed, which was getting longer and longer, this M5 appeared for only about 1000 euro more.

I'd always wanted an E34 M5 and this one, although one of the oldest around, looked like a solid, original car with no obvious faults (but no service history - i can hear the purists wailing and gnashing of teeth!). it was a decent car at a decent price so I bought it. But like you I'm not sure how far, if at all, i would have started to go out of my way to look for one.

Seems to be good value so far, but keeping my fingers crossed.
