M5 Touring - What to pay ?

Hi all,

I'm considering getting an M5 Touring as a "sensible" car, and wondered if there was a rough guide of what to pay for one ?

I've seen a few advertised in UK, Switzerland and Germany, and prices seem to vary considerably. Some are obviously cheap for a reason, but others seem overpriced (to me).

Hope you can help!

Re: M5 Touring - What to pay ?

Stimpy
It would seem that local economies & market forces such as supply & demand dictate values.
Its no big secret that the E39 M5 reached a final production of over 20,000 units & their value is is in freefall on the older cars 99 model year on.

Its having a knockon effect on the E34 M5.

America & Australia has the highest prices for the the E34 M5 especially the Euro 3.8. Again this down to geographic location , local laws on imports & rarity.

The M5 & Touring alike experience the same generic faults.
Some of those are pretty costly to fix especially the 3.8.
All tourings were this engine size so there is no distinction.

I think prices will firm up in the future but that some way off.

Theres no set price but buy on condition rather than other factors ioncluding cost.

BTW its not that sensible a car to run, even worse as an everyday usage vehicle.

Re: M5 Touring - What to pay ?

generally agree with -Farrell- (again ) -
higher priced cars are often off good value bcs they are (or rather shud be) in good trim and well maintained -
it can be VERY expensive to bring a lower priced car up to standards -
I love my M5touring but a 540iT (especially a M-package 6 gear manuell) is not doubt a more sensible car BUT it does NOT have a 'straight six', of course -
-
give me a wink when you find a M5touring you like, I just might have a history on that specific car in the registry -
-
the problem will be to find one in good shape, this is a rare car, if you are looking for 6-gear-car there were only 211 of them made and for a good specy you will have to be prepared to pay EUR 12.000 > 18.000 -
if you find one for EUR 6.000 -be warned- that can become a very expensive car with loads of problems unless you are a good ///M-mechanic yourself -
Good luck !

Re: M5 Touring - What to pay ?

Hi Stimpy

Got to agree with these guys but if you get one they are great cars, as are the saloon, but I love the practicality of the Touring I mean there are still not that many cars where you go down to Ikea bring home your bed and then enjoy yourself lapping the Nurburgring!

I honestly cannot think of another car I would rather own as other than maybe a new M5 Touring!
