Does anyone have a sub fitted to their car? Iam interested in getting one for my M5 thats cheap and easy to use..

I have a trade account with Car Stereos, Alarms, Trackers etc but can't get a good price as the company I deal with doesn't deal with who I would want.

Was thinking of something small and easy to take out.

I haven't got a sub in my car at the mo, but the problem with the e34 is getting the bass into the car - best results can be achieved by firing thru the centre of the seats. I am going to sort out the audio in the m5, but I wouldn't use any pre-built aftermarket bass box stuff, or most drivers, as they have far too high Q, meaning they ring, and sound pretty awful IMO. Loud and boomy yes, but don't have proper extension, or control. Better off getting a decent driver and working out a half decent allignment either using the whole boot space, or a homemade box.

But suspension and full leather interior come first even though I have managed to pop one of my rear speakers atm.....

Re: Music

Just want something that I can easliy fit. But also remove just as quick etc..

My Jetta Mk2 had the same rear seat arrangment as the M5 and I had a Pioneer All in one jobbie and it worked rather well. i just want to add little boom, but not be too gangster.

Re: Music

In my ex-gangsta M5 theres a cut-out in the centre armrest steel plate (the flip-down black metal part) that's where a previous owner had mounted one......but i assume a combined box/sub/amp will fire nicely through the flap if lowered/opened.

Bangin' innit? wicked.....

I've got an old 8" bass tube knocking about with integral amp, that's easy to bung in / pull out, but don't know if it will be adequate tho. PM if you're interested in making an offer.

Also have some car audio amps if you are interested, again PM me. I have some very, very, very nice units that were pulled from an old show vehicle, that give an amazing sound, not like your standard kenwood / alpine / pioneer ICE amps, these really are the poodles particulars.

Most car audio drivers and boxes are tuned to get that "boomy-ness" - basically lack of control of the woofer on transients (like a car with insufficient damping in the shocks), so you end up with muddy unclarified (but loud) boom (ie max power style nova boom) but not proper quality bass. The aftermarket compensate for this by having horribly loud piercing tweeters, so that your ear is tricked into hearing a balanced sound (when really they are bleeding!!!).

Personally I'm looking at sorting a well alligned 12" woofer (maybe 2 if i can get a good allignment within a reasonable space) in a box, with the cone(s) either facing the rear seats, or facing up.

My car has already got the wiring in the boot, as it was a show car in it previous life, and has some 6" blaupunkt units on the rear shelf - fitted by mounting to a vinyl covered piece of plywood, so they sit ontop of shelf, not behind like the original units - but since I've blown one, I will probably revert to smaller units that fit behind the grille and put in some bass reinforcement then.

But as I said, suspension first, interior next then body work & sound..... i'll get there in the end!!
