hard shifts

hello all,
i finally recieved my baby back from the body shop (it's been there a while) before it went in i started having difficulty shifting almost like the clutch wasn't fully engaged. when this all started i heard a pop almost like a metal spring popping free. it had a new clutch installed right before i got it done by the local BMW dealership and i have the reciepts for it and it is under warranty. the service guy i talked to at my dealership said they can inspect it and if it is in fact a problem with the clutch then it is covered under warranty but he said if it's NOT the clutch then i will have to pay for the repairs and the inspection time (insp time he said would be around 250 euros) what do you guys think?

Sounds like you got to do it regardless.
If you trust the people doing it, then cool.
Sounds like the arm that strokes the release brg. Thats got a return spring on it that can dislodge or maybe the release bearing itself has jammed causing extra mechanical force to be applied to overcome the fault.
Bent fingers on the cover...
If you have doubts ,take it to another dealer & ask them to investigate as the warranty covers you at any dealer from what I understand.

I guess what im saying is that its a clutch thats very new so the fault will be obvious & not down to anyone shouting that you have abused the cutch.

Regards

i was thinking it was quite possibly a fault with either #6 or even a broken "feather" on item #1 in this diagram. however i note that realoem states that #1 isn't on my vehicle. since i've never had it apart i can't really say. any ideas?

Pt 1 is your Cover & those radially slated pieces are called fingers.
Your car definately has a cover or really are in big trouble.
The spring I referred to in my previous post is as you have noted as pt6

farrell,
during a routine clutch replacement are both pt #1 and #6 usually changed? if so and one or the other are the fault then they will still be covered under warranty.

Pressure cover.
Driven plate.
Release bearing.

All the above would be routinely replaced as an assembly.

Pt6 would not form part of the clutch change generally.
They dont normally fail but they are a spring so they will fatigue over time.

The parts should however be inspected prior to reassembly by the technician.

Hope this helps

Re: hard shifts

Farrell,
guess i'll just have to see, i'm going to take it to BMW tomorrow and set up an appointment to have it looked at, if 6 is bad then it can't be that expensive to replace and hopefully it willo still be covered under the clutch warranty.
