M5 mirrors

Hey

I have M5 mirrors with blinker but no memory in them. Yesterday I replace the electrical motor in the mirrors with the ones from the original mirrors, not easy but it´s possible if some of you want to try it.

So do the memory mirrors have different motors? I'm trying to sort my passenger electric mirror.

Re: M5 mirrors

Yes there is a potentiometer in the electrical motor so the memory control box knows were the motor is. The memory mirror has 9 wirings.

Here are some pictures.....

Thanks for that, good to know, as when I attempted to repair my mirror a while back with one off ebay, it didn't appear to have the same motor unit in it as pictured, with the pots. Could explain my mirror problem. If you fitted a non memory mirror motor to your car what would happen? I reckon at some point a previous owner may have fitted a non memory mirror to my passenger side. It certainly had about 4 wires, not the full block with 9 wires, and the connector doesn't match the socket in the door, hmm thanks for this.

nice photos. thanks. is the OEM mirror that you got your motor from a non m5 mirror? It looks like a e39 5xx mirror. Are the motor units all the same?

Thanks. Simon
