Just like to say they replacing the rear exhaust hangers is a b*tch!

I wasn't prepared to remove the rear bumper/diffuser, so I had to cram my hands and some long twisted metal implements up into the small crevises between the muffler and the diffuser and spare wheel well to get the old hangers off and the new ones on. Talk about old. They had to be originals as they were stretched to a long diameter of ~6" vs. the new ones with a diameter of ~3". The mufffler is now much tighter to the body of the car; so much so that the front hangers don't even touch the 'feet' on the midpipe now. I couldn't get the front hangers off and gave up in frustration. I guess I'll just wait till the next oil change and pay my mechanic $10 to sweat a little. Sheesh!

Re: Just like to say they replacing the rear exhaust hangers is a b*tch!

My 3.8 is in at the dealers having new clutch/flywheel/centre bearing/Inspection 1. They had to take the exhaust off to do this. The rear mountings for the rear section of the exhaust were broken off and the rubbers just hanging on, lots of lateral movement from the exhaust. What really pi++es me off is that I had a new exhaust, cat back, fitted by a local bodywork shop as part of some rear bodywork I had done. I asked them if I needed to get new mountings/rubbers for this but they said everything was OK. Why don't these people just take advice/help when asked, then we'd avoid this kind of situation.

Point is, the original mountings had rusted and snapped off, so you may need to replace all of these clamps/mountings. I would suggest you would need to carefully drop the exhaust to get at them though. The bracket is at numbers 13 and 14 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...71&hg=18&fg=20
