Budget brake upgrade?

I have the chance to buy a pair of Porsche Carrera 4-pot brake calipers for around 450euros. Assuming they will fit without too much hassle on to my car (retaining the original 315mm discs) would this be a significant improvement for the price?

Or is it worth saving my pennies and try to source the 345mm discs & calipers?

Cheers

You will probably find that you will have to make up an adapater to position the mounted caliper over whatever discs you have.
For the cost you mention, I assume the Porche discs are not included.
The calipers you intend to buy would really need a look to ensure no seizing of the pistons or damage to tapped threads that take the male thread for brake hoses or the bleed nipples

I would ckeck on the size of the brake hose tapped threads & if they are not the same as BMW, factor in a pair of adaper hoses.
Pobably the braided type would be easiest as you can get the correct sized ends with olives etc sorted by the guys who make up the hoses for you.

I would have a check on replacement cost of pads.

Assuming all is good....

I would have the calipers.
I would buy a set of 345mm BMW floating discs as they go on easy & they are excellent value.
I would make up a pair off caliper adaper brackets out of HE30 Aluminium alloy.

It will take some time get the position absolutley spot on but when its done you can get the adapers anodised & you will have a fantastic set up.

Regards
Farrell

Re: Budget brake upgrade?

Thanks Farrell,

They guy selling the brakes is a porsch specialist who has quite a bit of experience fitting modern brakes to newer cars.

Of course upgrading to 345mm discs and 4pot BMW calipers would be good, but just wanted some advice as to whether the improvement with standard discs would be worth the 600euros or so it would take to fit them.
