Climate control issue (inside the car )

Hi,

Since the winter now has arrived, I am having a small problem with the climat control in the car. The symptoms are:
- When pushing the front window defroster button, I do not get the full fan speed.
- I can't feel that the temperature is put to max when I push the defroster butten but I don't know if it should.

It is an"automatic climate control system" so I guess I will have to get a new control panel (or parts of it).

Does anybody know how to determin the problem by e.g. bypassing the reostat for the fan to establish what the max speed of can be?

Gratful for any advice.

Cheers

Not too sure about the E34 control panel, but there is a very easy fix that I applied to my E36 328i, this had a similar problem which turned out to be a broken solder joint in the circuit board. BMW quoted a horrendous figure to fix, well, to replace the control unit.
I took it apart, found the joint, soldered it, it worked perfectly then.

It may be something as simple as that, I haven't worked on an E34 system, but may be worth checking out. Sorry I cant be much more of a help but just a thought.
