New toy!

Hi all,

As most of you probably know my car is off the road due to engine failure.
Work is slowly taking place but time is short and its bloody cold so I havent really got that far!(engine still in car!)
Anyway I was looking to buy a second hand motor to throw in for the time being to get her up and running again, but missed the one Infinicar had for sale due to the usual chaos at work.
My other cars include a Landrover Discovery (very battered but mechanically sound off roader-Very very battered!!) and a peugeot 309 petrol???? Oh and I also have an almost immaculate 320 touring with front end damage. Im afraid even with this selection of cars i wasnt getting my daily fix of big engined sideways action! Very frustrating!
So i have been out and bought another toy for the time being which will be sold/broke up for bits when my car is reborn.

Well impressed with it! Its '89 535i sport in Alpine white with following spec;-
Full electric memory leather in Red? (not that pretty)
Red carpets/mats/bottom half of dash (Pretty minging really)
Light smoke tinted windows
Factory Alarm
Clear indicators all round
working glovebox torch and most of toolkit
Set of Throwing stars (All 8J)
Auto air con (that works!)
Servo tronic steering!! (honestly it has!!)
Cruise control (that works!)
M bodykit (cos its a sport!)
LSD (cos its a sport!)
Stage 2 Superchip (Apparently)
Big black crap looking cone air filter
Tempermental Illuminating M gear knob
M5 badges/rear no. plate plastic surround thing
M clockset with 180mph speedo
M5 sill plates
And of course all the usual e34 gubbins (elec windows/mirrors/etc All working!
Its only done 99k and theres a folder load of receipts but no service book,Has had recernt top end rebuild though including Cam,Rockers/Rocker shafts,Valves the works!
It goes reasonably well, air filter is hideously loud and probably doesnt do any favours,Other than that everything works and is in pretty good condition.

What a Bargain!Pics below,What do you think?

Looks OK? only OK? I'm surprised at you Farrell, I'd have thought you'd already be offering to buy the M5 badges and the old-timer door mirrors!! :p

I like it. After seeing Greg's E34 at the weekend, I wished mine had been white. Perhaps white for my next M5!!?

I gave a little over a grand for it,matey started at £1500! Reasonable money i thought? Has fresh MOT, new (6 Months) Tax on it,New pads and a few other bits and bobs. The guy i bought it from has had it in his garage for about 2 years. He originally bought it for 3.5k thinking it was a proper M5 and that he had had himself a bargain! When his mistake was pointed out he took the car back and was told to get stuffed! Felt a little sorry for him really,he was stiffed good and proper! Maybe he should of done some research? This forum would have been the place! Someone has stuck an M badge to the black plastic thing that the wiring loom runs through between the rocker cover and inlet manifold though! Quite convincing? I think NOT!

No No
The car is excellent value for money indeed.
You could get that much for some of the bits on it...

The King of bling comment was aimed fairly & squarely at myself for reasons some of the "GENTLEMEN " local to me know well.

White M5 's in this part of the world appear not to be loved as a colour
Ive only seen one ever in the flesh.

In japan, its said to be a prestigious colour.... here im not so sure.

Re: New toy!

I have a '89 535i sport in metallic blue as well as my 3.6 91 M5 in sebring grey!

Sounds like a good deal to me, I wouldn't get that for mine in the nick it is in. Yours does look and sound like a good M5 replica tho - I don't think many have original TS wheels or the black num plate surround, or extended leather interior.

Now you own a sport and a real M5 have a look at the front spoiler lip on the 535 and then on the M5. See the difference in the lower lip? Which one do you prefer?

I have noticed this difference in the lower lip, The 535 one seems a little smoother and slightly baulkier(if thats the right word?) Kinda like that look but the M is keeping whats its got!

Wouldnt mind the servo-tronic steering though! Can this conversion be done relatively easily? Whilst my engine is out.

Yeah it is bigger, and protrudes further (viewed from side), it has a flatter face, and is less rounded than the M one. For ages I coudn't work out why my 535i looked meaner/more aggressive and lower from the front than the M5 when parked next to each other. The flat face catches the light more. It is more reminiscent of the e24/e28/e30 m-tech kit which is my favourite era of bmw's really. The air intakes are slightly larger as well due to the shape.

edit: the blue one is mine, but bunged up another pic i had of a nice red one with same spec early mirrors (my favourites) and same front spoiler / lip.
