I drove four M5s back-to-back on Sunday (Thanks to Bruv, Lagoon, MadM5 and Gone Again). Very interesting to feel the differences!

Two of them had throttle cables which were very stiff (one so gummed-up that the pedal didn't return to your foot when you lift) - it was like having the cruise stuck on!

It's an inexpensive part - 13 54 1 401 139 (3.8) - I paid £21.

If you're feeling tight, just lubricate the one you've got, but if your cable is dry and sticky a new one will make the world of difference.

Mine gets stiff every time I go over 6000rpm....

but my throttle cable is fine

Alternatively just give a liberal dosing of light oil to the end of the throttle cable nipple where the inner goes in the outer (ohh er)....
Also the stiffness (ohh er again) could be the actual linkage and rosejoints for each throttle body.
I had the stiff pedal when i forst got tthe car and its now lovely and smooth for about 2 mins with some oil.
Glad mine wasnt stiff Andy

You can tell if it's the cable for sure - unhook the end of the cable from the bracket on the throttle linkage and see how freely it moves when you press the pedal. Should be light and fluffy!

I quite like my stiffy actually! With the aftermarket pedals it give more of a feel I reckon, and I love a good feel:p

Don't worry, the throttle will still feel heavy, but smooth and heavy rather than like it is now, like wading through treacle.

I had a stiffy which was fixed. I hit cruise control so I didn't get the shakes while she fixed it. I knew the dual carriageway was due to end in ten miles or so, so unknown to the little lady, I kept dropping the speed 1mph at a time in order not to run out of road before the "repair" was complete...

Anyhoo, I have no idea what you are talking about with cables, return, gummed-up lift, linkages and pedal rosejoints?

My On-Off switch runs the engine perfectly... a little tricky in heavy traffic I'll admit, but I have GhostRider on DVD to go by, so you get the hang of it after a while. No trouble.
