Insurance, Alarms and Trackers

Doea anyone know if the standard alarm system fitted to my car, a 1995 LE, is up to the Cat 1 or 2 status. Churchill want it to be and if it`s not I need to get an alarm and an immobiliser and a Tracker fitted. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Re: Insurance, Alarms and Trackers

The "standard" BMW alarm on my 1995 6 speed was not Cat 1.

I bought a Cat 1 BMW alarm from "The stealer" and a BMW Technician mate fitted it for me.

The only change I saw in real terms was the single button BMW remote being replaced with another BMW remote, with one red and one grey button on.....and no keyswitch on the sounder unit........

Not sure if this helps.................

Mark

Yeah it does help thanks, the great insurance company in the sky will graciously allow me a Cat2 though. Good to know I could get a BMW Cat1, Could you give me a rough idea of the cost?

Not every insurer requires a tracker. I was with Liverpool Victoria now Elephant, cheaper than anyone else I could find and no tracker required. Of course if you want a tracker that another matter....

Re: Insurance, Alarms and Trackers

Sorry mate, can't lay my hands on the receipt - which is a little unlike me !!

I've a feeling it was about £250........after discount.

I know it was a 3G EWS system, if that helps.

Mark
