Hey

Am thinking of remove some weight from my flywheel, but has anyone try to do it, or is it stupid to do so?

Doesn't sound a great idea to me as BMW would have put quite a lot of thought into it. However your countryman, Finn, might know more.

I removed my stock flywheel when i replaced the clutch. I went with a stock clutch and a JB racing flywheel. Very happy with the feeling, the car runs better. When I shift the rpms stay up there and when i shut the car off you do not hear that rough noise.

JB racing is in Florida, and is a very reputable company.

Re: Flywheel

If your car is a 3.8 as I remember, then the easiest way is to switch to a S38B36 flywheel as it is only half as heavy. This means that the clutchg has to be the b36 item also, rest of the parts are the same .

Re: Flywheel

There are driveability issues with lighter fylwheels.

My E30 has one fitted and it makes it alot harder to drive smoothly around town. The revs also drop alot faster which can be annoying when your in Lazy mode driving style.

The m5 is already a difficult car to drive smoothly at low to mid speeds - this will make it worse.

Re: Flywheel

I went with the OEM single mass flywheel from the 3.6L M5. Definitely nicer.
