Ok now I have been on Robs site.

But I was wondering about peoples own personal experiences they have with different setups.

This can be with 6spd or 5spd.

As I've said before i recently converted to 6sp box & prop, but kept the 3.91 diff. Mine is 3.6 and loves the revs, so I find the sporty set up of the gearing that it gives me is ideal for the engine. My 5sp box may have had drag in it, but as soon as I did the conversion I noticed a massive improvement in performance - it totally transformed my car. Really shifts from zero now, altho 1st is short but it means you rocket up the rev range in first and get to maintain the revs up the gears. 6th is the same as 5th in my 5sp box, so top speed etc is unaffected.

I also find dropping to 3rd when overtaking absolutely exhilerating in situations where you would not be able to drop to 2nd in the 5sp box, but 3rd wouldn't give you the acceleration of the 6sp.

I've never driven a 6sp with the correct 3.23 diff, but assume it is the same as the 5sp as the ratios end up the same with 6th purely for lower rpm cruising (or theoretical top speed of 200mph!!).

Drove Cyrus' 3.6 with 5sp box today and would say withot a doubt I stand by my evaluation, it really does make the most of the engine.

I was considering using the 3.64 diff from an 8 series as that is what Rob L ends up with, and is a good comprimise of sporty lower gears and lower rpm motorway cruising, but thought I'd try it with 3.91, and am pretty definitely sticking with this combo at the mo as I love it, and wouldn't want to sacrifice my new found acceleration!

Re: Diffs Diffs Diffs

The 6sp with 3.91 diff is the only combo that Rob L doesn't show in his tables of rpm vs mph, so I plan to do this very soon and will post up the results.
