Brake Pads

What brake pads are people using with their 345 floating disks?

Textar are the origional ones but does anyone else make a decent set of pads?

Mine has unfortunately fitted with EBC Red Stuff ones which are quite bad news.

The loose nut behind the strg wheel was removed at point of sale.
The previous owner was the biggest pointless accessory that M5 ever had.

Re: Brake Pads

Stick with the OEM pads.

They were developed to stop a 1700kg car from 170mph +, AND they keep the refinement.

I usually sing the praises of Mintex, but having tried them, I'll be going back to OEM ones.

Original Equipment is cheaper too!!

Re: Brake Pads

Ok, lets make a list.

1) Remove perfectly good Airbox and cut it up and replace filter with biggest maxpower one you can fit under bonnet - Now reversed

2) Remove mesh from both side of MAF because it was thought to obstruct airflow - will find out if MAF is also damaged

3) Weichers strut brace- look ok so might leave it there

4) Red stuff ceramic pads - crap - need to reverse

5) AVO rear springs..... need i say more. Replacing with eithr stock a set of H&R

6) Drilled front light surround to aid airflow........i just wont say anything

7) Hayward & Scott Spitfire aeroplane noise making exhaust - reversed and awaiting pickup.

This car has been truly saved!

At least he kept it very very clean!

Re: Brake Pads

He he ! I had the same thing when I bought mine. The noddy selling it was proud of the fact that he had thrown the air box away and replaced it with a USED K&N that looked like it had been driven over a few times. Included in his sales pitch was a cusom made bracket to hold it all together made out of a metal ruler and tie wraps!
And yes, the mesh in the MAF had been removed and any plastic obstructing air flow.
"Well let me shake your hand , we have a deal".

Rob,

You could be right with the Mintex arguement. They can be great but sometimes they can be harsh and noisy. Mine are getting better with use (or maybe I'm getting used to them) but I certainly wouldn't be concerned with the standard pads.

Re: Brake Pads

I agree
The std pads used in the 4 pot , floating brakes version are very good, if a little dusty to say the least.

When I had single pot brakes & the 315 dia brakes, I used pagid intermediate pads.

The std pads were not up to it & wilted under hard use but there was a progressive decline.
