Front brakes and disks

Hi all, my 1993 3.8 has annoyingly juddery front brakes. Pads were Pagid fast road (this is Kurt Ramsden's old car), but I suspect either disks or pads are knackered as I tried to toast them to get them to stop juddering and it's not worked

What are my options for quality/economy replacements and what sort of price am I looking at?

thanks - sorry to ask the basic questions!

Re: Front brakes and disks

are you sure its the discs?

Aure its not the bushes? Mince has the same problems and my bushes are worn.

Same thing happened to my forst 3.6 and my e34 Touring.

Get Powerflex ones when replacing. Will last longer than you have the car probably.

Re: Front brakes and disks

Pretty sure it's not the bushes - they were all checked when I got the initial shock bit of work done on the car ... plus I've melted enough brakes on my Honda to know what they feel like Car going for MOT imminently - I'll get him to check bushing as well then - thanks for the advice mate

Re: Front brakes and disks

I recently replaced my warped front rotors with ZIMMERMANN X-drilled rotors. I think they were ~$90 each.

Re: Front brakes and disks

I must admit I never go near X-drilled rotors - my track experience shows they tend to crack quite quickly with extreme use ... although I appreciate many peoples experience may be different!

Depends on whether they were cast and then drilled (holes become the weak points), or cast with the holes in the template such as AP discs (no weak points and fine on track).

Slotted/grooved discs seem to be the way to go for fast road use, as they let the gases escape quite well and also keep the pad clean/smooth with a planing action as the pad scrapes past them.

Re: Front brakes and disks

I must admit from my own experiences (about 10 track days per year) the only reliable method has been blank disks ... but that's probably because I don't spend enough ... had bad experiences with slotted disks as well!

Anyway: this is just a quality, reliable road product I'm after, hence not wanting to spend too much

Re: Front brakes and disks

I had nighmare experiences with warping front discs. I tried a variety of EBC discs cross drilled, grooved etc.

I did get a combination of Black Diamond discs with EBC redstuff pads. The greenstuff pads just warped every disc.

My final setup which is superb are the later 345mm floating discs with the four pot callipers. Superb!

Re: Front brakes and disks

Couple of shops on German ebay selling Zimmermann discs, second one is cheaper, but I assume it's the same product. 65quid is cheap for 2 new discs!
